Do You Want To Draw More Cartoons?
You could be producing work like this too…
Whether you’re looking to…
cartoon for fun
build up a portfolio of images
promote your business
You’re in the right place…or are you?
Like many folks you know that drawing more cartoons will give you a lot of joy, help you to express your creativity, and get your message across, but you never get around to doing so.
How do you feel when you don’t get stuff done? Probably not too great.
Me neither...
You know you’ll get the results you want, and yet when you think about sitting down to draw you see a big stop sign in your head and you don’t go past it.
However, when you finally sit down, you check social media, cat videos, and messages from your mum…
…And even if you manage to put the phone down, there’s still the blank canvas of doom to deal with...
Who knew that staring at a blank canvas could feel like free falling into a black hole…
And the longer you fall the less chance you have of ideas appearing…because nothing comes out of a black hole…
So you know you must make a decision, but even that doesn’t help because you either…
Walk away feeling frustrated that you haven’t done it and you don’t know how to start, or you put pen to paper and absolutely hate what you’ve done because you haven’t practiced enough.
And how does that make you feel?
useless?
defeated?
and to top it off your inner critic starts telling you that you’ll never be a cartoonist.
However, you know that there’s a spark inside you that wants to draw. That’s why you’re riveted to this page right now. So how can you finally stop berating yourself, change things and unleash your inner cartoonist?
It’s time to do things a bit differently...
You’ve most likely already bought a few books on the subject or watched some videos…
Some of the books you may have looked at or even read. While that’s great for information, it won’t give us the social connection we crave or a communal sense of encourage to get it to draw.
We’re social creatures - we like to do things in groups.
By ourselves, it can be tricky to get started, however together we can feed off each other’s enthusiasm and inspiration.
There’s something about the collective energy of a group, all working on the same activity.
Dr. Robert Keith Sawyer is the Morgan Distinguished Professor in Educational Innovations at the University of North Carolina.
He is an expert on creativity, innovation and learning. He is the author of Group Genius - the creative power of collaboration.
In a Washington University study published in June 2005 in the Journal of Linguistics & Education, Dr. Sawyer suggests that group study is actually more effective for learning.
Here’s a little of what’s he has to say on group learning.
…with a group there are more voices and diverse perspectives…there is a better opportunity for surprising and radical ideas to emerge, because different group members are more likely to generate surprising new ideas, faster, than solitary individuals.
…each person’s ideas are inspired by, and build on, the other member’s ideas. When that process works well, you see surprising new ideas emerge, ideas that no solo member of the group could have thought of.
And that’s why I created…
Wouldn’t it be cool to have a weekly reminder to draw, at a set time, when all you have to do is sit down and draw?
Wouldn’t it be even cooler having someone to draw with? It’s always easier to do something if you’re part of a team all doing the same activity. It’s way easier to stick to something when there’s other folks keeping you accountable.
You’re probably wondering by now who is behind Cartoon Club….time to…
Meet Rob the Cartoonist…
This is me at the Cartoon Museum in London.
I’ve been drawing cartoons my entire life. I draw a lot, so it’s nice to share the time I spend drawing with other people. I love to help other people with their own cartoons, I also learn a lot myself in the process.
I work as a freelance cartoonist and illustrator, and run courses helping people with their cartooning. During all of that I’ve drawn a lot of different cartoons and illustrations, a variety of which you can see above.

Here’s what Meg had to say…
Wow! Cartooning lessons with Rob are the highlight of my week.
At once therapeutic and enjoyable, I am learning both practical skills and self-confidence. I always wished I was a natural-born artist and working with Rob has me thinking I Just might get there after all! He has an amazing blend of practical solutions and an encouraging style that gives me confidence to create on paper what I see in my head.
I really appreciate the combination of personalized lessons based on my interests along with his professional guidance on what makes technical sense for me to learn next. Each lesson includes a conversation about what I'd like to practice and how the week has gone since my last lesson. Then he shares examples, strategies and techniques for me to try, and then gives live examples and feedback on my work.
My favorite "bonus" are the thoughtful conversations we have as we work through the cartooning. Besides the drawing technique, Rob also focuses on how to nurture the creation of ideas, habits, and self-confidence. I appreciate that while he is nurturing my creativity, he is also providing a very detailed and strategic framework for me to follow.
After each lesson I receive a detailed summary of what we covered along with screenshots of our session and examples as well as very specific homework techniques to try. It's so helpful to have a roadmap of what to do next! Working with Rob is easy and fun -- I can't recommend these lessons highly enough. If you have any interest whatsoever in cartooning, drawing, self-awareness or just a fun hobby, definitely give it a try! - Meg Love, USA.
…and here’s what Harry had to say…
For years I had wanted to create a comic strip, but my drawing skills were so limited that I thought it would never happen. One day, while searching online for "how to draw a simple comic strip," I came across across an article by Rob Middleton that described clearly, with numerous examples, how to do exactly what I was looking to do, with simply drawn characters that did not require years of art school training.
I quickly got in touch and have been having weekly lessons since then, with enjoyable and satisfying results.
Rob has a friendly, accepting approach, working with the student at whatever his level of skill (or lack thereof), which has allowed me to slowly but noticeably improve. I now have my own comic strip that I work on and post regularly, much to the enjoyment of friends and family. This has changed my life! - Harry Goldhagen, USA.
Take a look at what Harry’s been drawing…
And if you really want to sharpen your pencils and get cracking with your cartooning, there’s…

Here’s what other folks had to say…
“Rob's courses are amongst some of the most easy to understand, and immediately accessible courses around. He breaks all concepts down in to it's simplest parts and is always on hand to provide feedback and answer any questions you may have. He truly embodies the beginner's mindset and can put you at ease very quickly with even the most technical aspects of drawing. I highly recommend any of his current and future courses!” - Nigel D’Souza, Melbourne Australia.
“I loved how Rob broke everything down into simple blocks. I tend to spend all my time concentrating on getting technically good at cartooning, so coming up with ideas was just another (hard) thing to do. Rob made it much easier.” - Vicky Frazer- Moxie Books, Hertfordshire UK.
